Re: Stop SCA 5 Now, for the Future of California
Dear Friend:
California is amending its Constitution to perpetuate the legality of discrimination (e.g., race, ethnic, sex, national origin etc.) in public education.
You can help stop such legislative discrimination. In this knowledge-based economy, equal access to public education will determine this nation’s future.
But encouraging discrimination in public education in California is what SCA 5 (Senate Constitutional Amendment No. 5) is all about.
The State Senate narrowly passed this bill on 1/30/2014.
The voting in the Assembly is imminent. Everyone’s family may someday be a victim of this bill—whether a Caucasian farmer with generations of family history in California, a geeky Indian engineer starting up a company in Silicon Valley, a Latino immigrant and small-business owner who endured a lot of family sacrifices just to come to the Golden State, or an African American professor in history still remembering grandma’s vivid stories about segregation on public buses.
This “everyone” includes you.
This year is the 50th Anniversary of Civil Rights Act of 1964, and also the 50th Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s award of the Nobel Peace Prize. What happened 50 years ago was one of the greatest achievements of all time in human history.
Yet, some Californian politicians now decide to substantially undo Dr. King’s legacy.
Whatever those politicians’ motivations and agendas behind SCA 5 are, this bill will be a disaster for all Californians.
You are urged to send a postal mail—even in this Facebook age—to your Assembly Representative to stop SCA 5.
