The Chinese system is like no other known to man, now or in history. Byanalysing the leadership of Xi Jinping, the meaning of ''socialist marketeconomy'', corruption, the party-state apparatus, the reach of the party, themechanisms of repression, taxation and public services, and state-societyrelations, this book explains how the system works and where it may bemoving.
Drawing on Chinese and international sources, on extensive collaborationwith Chinese scholars, and on the political science of state analysis, theauthor concludes that under the new leadership of Xi Jinping, the system ofgovernment has been transformed into a new regime radically harder and moreideological than the legacy of Deng Xiaoping. China is less strongeconomically and more dictatorial politically than the world has wanted to believe.

... The regime''s policies may generate resentment and protest, but the CCPstill enjoys a surprisingly high level of popular support. Nor is the partyis not cut off from the people it governs. It consults with a wide range ofspecialists, stakeholders, and members of the general public in a selectiveyet extensive manner. Further, it tolerates and even encourages a growingand diverse civil society, even while restricting access to it. Today, themajority of Chinese people see the regime as increasingly democratic eventhough it does not allow political competition and its leaders are notaccountable to the electorate. In short, while the Chinese people may preferchange, they prefer that it occurs within the existing political framework.
In reaching this conclusion, Dickson draws upon original public opinionsurveys, interviews, and published materials to explain why there is so muchpopular support for the regime.

同感习近平这届政府大大加强对意识形态的控制。不过这俩标题看着还是很刺眼。东海西海,吵吵闹闹……
