据悉，每周三中午是议会下院首相质询时间，也是一周间议员最集中的一天，案发后，议会大厦临时关闭。首相特蕾莎被至少八名全副武装的便衣警察护送进入一辆黑色车中离开，其中一些人手持枪支。当时现场仍有巨响传来，但尚不清楚响声是否是枪声。

A MAN wielding an ‘eight inch’ knife has been shot outsideParliament after charging the gates and stabbing a police officer –with cops declaring a ‘terror attack’ in the capital.
Up to a dozen innocent pedestrians were mowed down on WestminsterBridge by grey 4×4 which then crashed into the gates outsideParliament.
Dramatic pictures show bodies littering Westminster bridge and thevicinity outside Parliament.
Two people have been seen lying within Old Palace Yard, immediatelyoutside Westminster Hall.
Earlier reports suggested sounds of an explosion were heard butthis has not been confirmed.
Commons Leader David Lidington told MPs: "What I am able to say tothe House is there has been a serious incident within theestate.
"It seems that a police officer has been stabbed, that the allegedassailant was shot by armed police.
"An air ambulance is currently attending the scene to remove thecasualties.
"There are also reports of further violent incidents in thevicinity of the Palace of Westminster but I hope colleagues on allsides will appreciate that it''d be wrong of me to go into furtherdetails until we have confirmation from the police and from theHouse security authorities about what is going on."
The Prime Minister was seen in the voting lobby at the time of theattack - she was bundled into a car and rushed from the scene withofficial sources saying she is unharmed.
Rob Smith was running past Westminster when he said he saw thedrama unfolded, told Sun Online: (The) grey Hyundai car came acrossthe bridge then across the cycle lane, hit a man on a bike anddrive into the wall gates.
"Police ran straight out and shot him. I think there was anotherperson but I can''t be sure."
He said that officers had been drawing their guns as they ranout.
Another witness reported: "We heard a loud bang, lots of shoutingand men running around.Someone rushed through, attacked apoliceman."He appeared to be carrying a knife or a gun. We thenheard gunfire, five or six rounds."The man approaching one of thepolice officers with a knife."
Another witness told Sky News a man was seen walking towards apoliceman with a knife in his hand, having already assaultedanother policeman.
A medical helicopter has landed outside the Houses Parliament totreat victims and a Hazardous Area Response Team has beendispatched.
