Caroline Wozniacki and Maria Sharapova aren’t the best of friends, to saythe least, but she has a point here.
After losing her second round match 6-2, 6-7, 6-1 in a tough match againstEkaterina Makarova, which didn’t conclude until after midnight on Thursdaymorning because of a rain delay, the World No. 5 took a swipe at the U.S.
Open for its decision to put her on the fifth court, and Sharapova on centercourt.
Here’s what she said:“I think putting out a schedule where the No. 5 in the world in playing onCourt 5, fifth match on after 11 [p.m.], I think that is unacceptable. Whenyou look at center court, I understand completely the business side ofthings and everything, but someone who comes back from a drug sentence, andyou know, performance enhancing drugs, and then all of the sudden gets toplay every single match on center court, I think that’s a questionablething to do.”
