尽管美国总统大选局势依然未定，一旦由民主党候选人拜登入主白宫，被称为"金砖四国"之父的奥尼尔（Jim O’Neill）指出，对中国来说，拜登政府将比川普政府带来更大的麻烦。
据报导，川普执政时期对中国採取与过往总统不同的方式，透过单方面对中国施加关税进行制裁，但美中贸易战的爆发也牵动著全球经济。而拜登的作法较类似欧洲，遵循WTO或G20的贸易准则，採取多边贸易主义拉拢盟国，代表在与中国打交道时将採取更具体的行动。
高盛前首席经济学家、英国智库"皇家国际事务研究所"（The Royal Institute of International Affairs，或称Chatham House、漆咸楼）主席奥尼尔指出："在我印象中，中国更在意的是拜登政府，而非川普政府。"他认为拜登团队在关键议题上更具"坚定的哲学信念"。
作为"金砖四国"（BRIC）一词发明人的奥尼尔指出，拜登团队将透过现有的跨国论坛会，包括由WTO、G20、世界银行等所主办的国际会议，来要求中国承担更多责任，而不是所谓的"川普谈判风格"。
