STORYTELLING: If created, the museum would give Taiwanese-Americans the chance to ensure that their identity, history and journey are shown on their terms, the campaign saidBy Jonathan Chin / Staff reporter請繼續往下閱讀...Taiwanese-American groups yesterday urged for the accurate representation of Taiwan as the US Congress mulled establishing the National Museum of Asian Pacific American History and Culture.The congressional commission to study the possibility of creating the museum is gathering public input through Monday, before it presents a feasibility report to US lawmakers and US President Donald Trump.The Formosan Association for Public Affairs （FAPA） and Taiwanese Association of America （TAA-USA） in May launched the “Share Our Voice” campaign for Taiwanese-American stories to be told with nine partnered groups, they said.Since then, 300 Taiwanese-Americans have joined the movement to submit 200 public comments to call on the museum to include and accurately represent Taiwanese-American history and identity, including how Taiwan is identified and depicted on museum maps, they said.If created, the museum would be instrumental in telling the stories and contributions of Pacific Asians, a process Taiwanese-Americans are determined to be part of, they said.“Through this campaign, our community has shown up with purpose, seizing the opportunity to ensure that our Taiwanese-American identity, history and journey are told on our own terms,” the news release quoted FAPA national president Kao Su-mei （林素梅） as saying.“Our goal is to help shape how future generations understand the Taiwanese-American diaspora experience as part of the broader Asian Pacific American story,” she added.“Taiwanese-Americans are an important part of the American story.
