ONGOING CASE: Prosecutors questioned 14 people, but all were released, some without bail and others on amounts ranging from NT$300,000 to NT$15 million/ Staff writer, with CNA請繼續往下閱讀...Leading printeds circuit board maker Unimicron Technology Corp is under investigation for allegedly relabeling some of its products made in China as originating from Taiwan, Taoyuan prosecutors said.A printed circuit board department general manager surnamed Wang (王) and other people were suspected of offenses including using forged documents and making false product markings, in contravention of articles 216, 210 and 255 of the Criminal Code, prosecutors said after questioning the suspects overnight.However, prosecutors said detention was not necessary.Wang and a deputy general manager surnamed Wu (吳) were yesterday released on bail of NT$15 million (US$474,263) and NT$12 million respectively, the prosecutors said.Three others were released on bail ranging from NT$300,000 to NT$5 million, they said, adding that the remaining nine defendants were released without bail.Prosecutors said they would continue to investigate further and gather more evidence.Unimicron allegedly shipped its China-made printed circuit boards to Taiwan and falsely relabeled them as local products, which contravened the Criminal Code’s provisions on document forgery and false labeling of an item’s origin, the prosecutors said.In a joint operation on Friday, prosecutors and investigators raided Unimicron’s headquarters in Taoyuan’s Guishan District (龜山) and a manufacturing plant in Jhongli District (中壢).Fourteen executives and employees were detained for questioning.Unimicron spokesperson Chung Ming-feng (鍾明峰) said the company is fully cooperating with the investigation.A printed circuit board connects electronic components inside modern devices.Unimicron is also a major global supplier of Ajinomoto Build-up Film substrates, which are used in advanced semiconductor packaging for high-performance computing, artificial intelligence and smartphone applications.Additional reporting by Chen Shu-ting新聞來源:TAIPEI TIMES
