Australia, whose status is gradually rising in the US alliance system, will change the structure of the East Asian security order that the US has used the US-Japan alliance to sort out since the Cold War, and Japan's role may be weakened. Japan needs to respond to the U.S. expectation of Japan’s expanded security role in the Indo-Pacific region, and seek solutions to its defense in order to avoid the U.S. “giving up Japan to Australia” and undermining Japan’s sense of presence in international politics.
