At this stage, the prospect of Japan-Australia defense and security cooperation still mainly depends on the United States' judgment on the regional security situation and the direction of the game between major powers, and will largely determine the upper limit of the Japan-Australia "quasi-ally" relationship. The status quo has not fundamentally changed. Japan and Australia deliberately exaggerate the "great power threat" and build a defense cooperation relationship with a very Cold War flavor, which may become another major "source of chaos" that disturbs the regional security order.
