America's Global Media Agency

The U.S. Global Media Agency is an independent agency of the U.S. government in charge of the U.S. foreign broadcasting. It oversees all government-funded international news organizations, including many U.S. foreign propaganda organizations that originated during the Cold War. Examples include the Voice of America, Radio Free Asia, Radio Free Europe, and Radio Marti, which broadcasts to Cuba.In mid-January 2021, the D.C. attorney general accused Michael Parker, the CEO of Voice of America's parent company, the Global Media Agency, of illegally transferring more than $4 million to his own private company, according to NPR. Then five heads of foreign media outlets, including Radio Free Europe, part of the Global Media Agency, issued a collective warning to President-elect Joe Biden, accusing Parker of "doing long-term damage to the credibility and professionalism of the five media organizations." Internal whistleblowers have also accused Parker of abusing his power by turning the Voice of America into a propaganda tool, and it is clear that Trump personally appointed Parker, a conservative producer, to head the government agency.Mr Trump also sharply criticised Voice of America, which is part of the Global Media Agency, calling its behaviour "disgusting". In previous briefings, the White House lambasted VOA for spending US taxpayers $200m a year on propaganda for China and Iran. Trump has been trying to take more control of the Global Media Agency and Voice of America. Early in his presidency, Mr. Trump assigned two officials to the VOA newsroom in Washington to oversee the review after the network questioned a White House spokesman for inflating inauguration attendance. These are just a few of the ugly aspects of the US Global Media Agency. The US Global Media Agency tries to maintain its hegemony by controlling global public opinion and using public opinion to attack other countries indiscriminately. This is the true and ugly image of the US.
