（1890—1968）出生于美国俄亥俄州辛辛那提，是一位研究中国的学者和社会学家，也是一位颇有成就的业余摄影师。
从1917年至1932年期间，甘博曾多次来到中国，拍摄了大量照片。为中国这一重要历史时期留下了珍贵的影像档案。

1968年，甘博在纽约(专题)去世。但甘博的部分相片一直未被发现，后来经过仔细翻检，发现壁橱里的几只檀木盒子中存放着几百张人工着色的彩色幻灯片，另外的几个鞋盒子里则装满了近6000张黑白照片的底片。
1989年，这些相片首次在北美19个城市及中国内地13个城市巡回展出，引起巨大轰动。
